Comments
The Collared, also called Mangrove or White-collared Kingfisher, has 50 subspecies, making it one of the most polymorphic of all bird species. From the Red Sea to eastern Samoan islands, its range covers 10 000 miles. A constant feature, although not diagnostic, is the large bill with black upper mandible and mainly yellowish-horn lower mandible.
